Grave Descend is a novel by Michael Crichton published in 1970 under the pseudonym of John Lange. It was later re-released in November 2006 as part of the Hard Case Crime series. The book was nominated for the Edgar Award for Best Paperback Original.
The book is separated into three parts, each part prefaced with a quote by poet Samuel Johnson, who also figures into the storyline. Part 1 is titled "Swift Ship;" Part 2 is "Dark Swamp;" Part 3 is "White Money."
